IB mission statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Delhi Public School Bangalore East is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education programme for its students emphasizing the developmental needs of the child as a whole.

  • To encourage creativity and innovation within each child so as to make him an able contributor to society.
  • To enable our students to grow into global citizens of tomorrow imbibing the best of values, respecting individual cultural and religious differences hand in hand with academic excellence.
  • To instill in the children environmental consciousness incorporating sustainable practices for a better tomorrow.
  • To provide to all faculty members the opportunity of growth through enhancement of knowledge in their fields of learning.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a two-year pre-university curriculum designed for students aged 16 to 19. Recognized globally, it emphasizes not only academic excellence but also the development of personal, emotional, and social skills needed to thrive in a complex and interconnected world

The programme’s philosophy is grounded in the belief that education should go beyond exams—it should nurture curiosity, intercultural understanding, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Rooted in inquiry-based learning, the IBDP encourages students to think critically, communicate effectively, and understand diverse perspectives. Its balanced framework — combining six academic subjects with the DP Core (Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service) — nurtures both intellectual and personal growth. The IBDP fosters independent research, critical thinking, creativity, and service-mindedness.

At its heart, the IBDP believes that education should inspire not just academic success but lifelong learning, empathy, and responsibility toward the world.

At the heart of the IB Diploma Programme, the DP Core helps students become curious researchers, critical thinkers and compassionate contributors to society.

📚 Extended Essay (EE)

Learning to Investigate & Reflect

A 4,000-word independent research project on a topic of your choice. You become the inquirer and knowledgeable expert, conducting original research, developing thinking skills through critical analysis, and practicing academic integrity.

Guided by faculty mentors, you learn to manage a long-term project, respond to feedback, and build resilience when challenges arise.

🤔 Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

Learning to Think Critically

An interdisciplinary course that asks, “How do we know what we know?” TOK develops critical thinking across all subjects, exploring how cultures, disciplines and individuals construct knowledge.

Students examine real-world dilemmas – from healthcare ethics and artificial intelligence to climate science – recognising that knowledge is complex and assumptions matter.

❤️ Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

Learning Through Doing

CAS develops the caring, principled and balanced learner through meaningful experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

  • Create art, music, performances and innovations.
  • Engage in activity for physical, mental and social well-being.
  • Serve the community with empathy and responsibility.

CAS is where Approaches to Learning (ATLs) come alive: resilience through challenge, confidence through creation, empathy through service and reflection on personal growth.

Through every lesson, assessment and project, our learners grow as internationally minded leaders.

👥 Risk-Takers

Courageous & Resilient

IBDP students embrace challenge and uncertainty with confidence. In labs, performances, presentations and CAS projects, they experiment, take initiative and view setbacks as opportunities for growth.

Ethical & Responsible

Students act with integrity and fairness. Through CAS and TOK they explore ethical dilemmas, recognise that knowledge carries responsibility and choose to take action for the common good.

🎯 Balanced

Healthy Minds & Bodies

The IBDP balances intellectual rigour with physical, emotional and social well-being. Students are encouraged to combine study, activity and reflection, developing resilience and a sense of wholeness.

IB Learner Profile

Approaches to Learning (ATLs): How We Teach & Learn

At DPS East, we don’t just teach content, we teach students how to learn. Five clusters of Approaches to Learning skills empower our IBDP students to become independent, lifelong learners.

Our curriculum weaves Approaches to Learning (ATLs) seamlessly into every subject.

How ATLs Are Embedded Across All Subjects

ATLs are not taught separately; they are woven into every lesson, lab, essay and discussion.

Language Acquisition Social skills (conversation practice), communication (cross-cultural dialogue), affective skills (confidence building).
Individuals & Societies Research skills (primary & secondary sources), critical thinking (evaluating perspectives), self-management (essay projects).
Sciences Research skills (lab practicals), critical thinking (experimental design), self-management (data analysis).
Mathematics Thinking skills (problem-solving, pattern recognition), self-management (long-term projects), research skills (data interpretation).
The Arts Creative thinking (artistic expression), collaboration (ensemble work), reflection (process portfolios).

Assessment: Fair, Comprehensive & Rigorous

  • External examinations marked by international examiners ensure global consistency.
  • Internal assessments include coursework, projects, oral presentations and lab work.
  • Continuous evaluation across two years recognises growth and effort, not just final exams.

This multifaceted approach ensures authentic assessment of deep understanding aligned with the Learner Profile and ATLs—not just memorisation.

Grading & University Recognition

Each subject is scored on a scale of 1–7. Combined with up to 3 bonus points from TOK and the Extended Essay, students can achieve a maximum of 45 points.

Universities worldwide recognise and value IBDP scores for admissions, scholarships and advanced placement.

CAS in Action (student-led initiatives and reflections)

At DPS Bangalore East, Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) is where learning moves beyond the classroom. It encourages students to apply their knowledge, passions, and skills to real-world contexts,  fostering empathy, leadership, and personal growth.

Through student-led projects, learners create art, organize community drives, lead fitness or environmental initiatives, and collaborate on social-impact campaigns. Each experience helps them develop resilience, teamwork, and self-awareness.

Reflection is central to CAS, students document their journeys, challenges, and achievements, connecting their experiences to the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning (ATLs).

In essence, CAS at DPS East helps students become not just successful learners, but responsible, compassionate changemakers.

By actively participating in community initiatives, students learn that education is not confined to classrooms — it’s about understanding the world, taking action, and making a meaningful difference.
