IB Career programme - 11th & 12th

The IB Career Programme at Delhi Public School East Bangalore Shaping Skilled, Ethical Global Citizens.

The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme is the IB programme
that is designed for students 16 to 19 years of age. It is a unique programme
designed to bring the academic rigour and global focus of the IB through career-
related courses.

The IBCP provides an opportunity for students to integrate the career-focused
courses of their choice with selected IBDP subjects. This flexible framework allows
students to integrate academic knowledge and practical, hands-on career skills. This
combination of academics and experience empowers candidates to gain 21st-
century skills and better adapt to workplace requirements.

At Delhi Public School Bangalore East, our International Baccalaureate Career-
related Programme (IBCP) empowers students with global skills, deep thinking, and
values that last a lifetime. As an IB World School, we offer an internationally
acclaimed curriculum that blends academic rigour, holistic personal development,
and international mindedness. Every learner is supported to become a skilled,
creative, principled, and confident global citizen, ready to succeed in life, at the
world’s best universities and beyond.

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Delhi Public School Bangalore East is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education programme for its students emphasizing the developmental needs of the child as a whole.

  • To encourage creativity and innovation within each child so as to make him an able contributor to society.
  • To enable our students to grow into global citizens of tomorrow imbibing the best of values, respecting individual cultural and religious differences hand in hand with academic excellence.
  • To instill in the children environmental consciousness incorporating sustainable practices for a better tomorrow.
  • To provide to all faculty members the opportunity of growth through enhancement of knowledge in their fields of learning.

The IBCP is the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme, a two-year
IB programme for students aged 16–19 that combines IB academic subjects with
structured career-related studies and a distinctive core.

The programme is designed for students who want to pursue a specific career
pathway while still engaging in rigorous academic learning through selected IB
Diploma Programme (DP) courses. It aims to develop both academic strength and
practical, workplace-ready skills such as problem-solving, communication, and
ethical decision-making.

Students completing IBCP gain a 12th-grade equivalent qualification recognised by
many national systems (including AIU in India) and by universities worldwide. The
programme prepares them for multiple routes: higher education, professional
certificates, apprenticeships, or direct employment in their chosen field.

At its heart, the IBCP believes that education should inspire not just academic
success but lifelong learning, empathy, and responsibility toward the world.
IBCP vs IBDP
Both programmes serve 16–19-year-olds, but with different emphases. IBDP is
primarily an academically oriented pre-university pathway with six DP subjects and
the DP core (TOK, EE, CAS), while IBCP blends 2–4 DP subjects with career-
focused study and the CP core, suiting students who prefer applied, practical
learning.

Reflective Project

A cumulative project exploring a moral dilemma in the workplace and modern business operations, fostering creativity, communication, and research skills.

Language & Cultural Studies (LCS)

Encourages students to expand linguistic and cultural understanding, engaging with diverse communities at local and global levels.

The IB Learner Profile: Who We Aim to Develop

The IBCP is designed for motivated students who aspire to embody the IB Learner Profile. Through every lesson, assessment, and project, our learners grow as internationally minded leaders, who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world

As IB Learners we strive to be:

🔍 Inquirers

We foster natural curiosity and a genuine love for learning. Students are encouraged to ask critical questions, undertake independent research, and explore multiple perspectives across disciplines. Through this journey, they develop a wide range of skills, research skills through the Reflective Project, social skills through community engagement, future-ready skills through Personal and Professional Skills, and strong analytical abilities through subject-based inquiries.

🧠 Knowledgeable

Students develop comprehensive knowledge across all four DP subjects and four cores, exploring significant concepts and grappling with authentic global issues. They understand not just "what" but "why" connecting knowledge across disciplines and applying it to real- world contexts.

💭 Thinkers

Critical and creative thinking is integral to the IBCP, particularly through the Reflective Project. In this core component, students explore real-world ethical dilemmas by questioning assumptions, analyzing diverse perspectives, and synthesizing complex information. They develop the ability to approach problems systematically, think creatively, and respond strategically to challenges with well-reasoned, reflective conclusions.

🌍 Communicators

Fluency in multiple languages, both written and spoken, is fundamental. Students communicate effectively across cultures, express complex ideas clearly, and listen actively to diverse viewpoints. Through Language and Cultural Studies students develop proficiency alongside cultural competence.

👥 Risk-Takers

IBCP students approach challenges and unfamiliar situations with confidence and resilience. Through their career-related studies, Reflective Project, and personal and professional skills, they take intellectual and creative risks testing ideas, presenting research, leading initiatives, and learning from setbacks. They understand that challenges and occasional failure are essential steps in growth, innovation, and lifelong learning.

✨ Principled

We nurture students who act with integrity, honesty, and a strong sense of ethical responsibility. Through Community Engagement, they actively serve and contribute to their communities, while the Reflective Project enables them to examine real-world ethical dilemmas thoughtfully. Students come to understand that knowledge carries responsibility and are encouraged to make principled decisions and take action for the greater good.

🎯 Balanced

The IBCP demands intellectual rigour alongside physical, emotional, and social well- being. Our programs encourage students to balance study with activity and reflection, developing resilience and wholeness.

🤔 Reflective

Self-awareness and metacognition are integral to the IBCP. Students regularly reflect on their learning experiences, set meaningful goals, and monitor their personal and academic growth. Through reflection in Community Engagement, the Reflective Project, and Personal and Professional Skills, students deepen their self-understanding and develop the ability to learn from experience and improve continuously.

❤️ Open-Minded

Students respect diverse cultures, perspectives, and beliefs. They challenge stereotypes, engage across differences, and seek to understand viewpoints different from their own. International mindedness permeates our curriculum.

🤝 Caring

Beyond academic achievement, IBCP students develop empathy, compassion, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Through Community Engagement, they participate in meaningful service and real-world initiatives, while collaborative learning experiences encourage them to support and value one another. Students come to recognize their role within a wider local and global community and act with care and respect for others.

Approaches to Learning (ATLs): How We Teach & Learn

Where ATL lives in IBCP

DP subjects:

Teachers plan units to target specific ATL clusters (e.g., research in Business, communication in Language, self-management in Sciences), with explicit scaffolding and reflection.

CP core:

Personal and Professional Skills (PPS) is the main ATL engine, the Reflective Project all formally develop ATL skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and ethical reasoning.

Career-related study:

Partners or in-house vocational teams embed “on-the- job” ATL such as teamwork, time management, problem-solving and use of industry tools.

Priority ATL Skills for IBCP

At DPS East, we don't just teach content, we teach students how to learn. Five clusters of Approaches to Learning skills empower our IBCP students to become independent, lifelong learners.

💬
Communication

Professional emails, presentations, interviewing, client interactions (planned in PPS, Reflective Project and career-study tasks).

🤝
Social & Collaboration

Working in teams, taking feedback, conflict resolution during projects, internships or service learning.

🧭
Self–Management

Meeting workplace-style deadlines, balancing DP workload with career study, maintaining professionalism and wellbeing.

🧠
Research & Thinking

Investigating ethical issues for the Reflective Project and industry trends for career projects using credible sources and analytical tools.

Assessment: Fair, Comprehensive & Rigorous

IBCP assessment combines:

  • External examinations marked by international examiners (ensuring global consistency)
  • Internal assessments including coursework, projects, oral presentations, and lab work (capturing authentic learning)
  • Continuous evaluation across two years (recognizing growth and effort, not just final exams)

This multifaceted approach ensures authentic assessment of deep understanding aligned with the Learner Profile and ATLs, not just memorization.

Grading: Each DP subject is graded on a scale of 1 to 7, along with additional CRS credits. Universities worldwide acknowledge and value IBCP scores for admissions.

Student-led initiatives and reflections

Community engagement in the CP core asks students to situate themselves in real community contexts, identify issues that matter to them and their communities, and respond through purposeful action. It is designed as experiential learning that bridges DP courses, the career-related study and the core, emphasising personal, interpersonal and ethical development.

Through community engagement, CP students are expected to:

● Apply academic and career-related knowledge to authentic problems, decision-making, problem-solving, initiative and accountability.

● Develop empathy, intercultural understanding and a sense of responsibility towards others, in line with the IB mission, learner profile and Approaches to Learning (ATLs).
At DPS Bangalore East, learning moves beyond the classroom. It encourages students to apply their knowledge, passions, and skills to real-world contexts, fostering empathy, leadership, and personal growth.
Through student-led projects, learners organize community drives, lead fitness or environmental initiatives, and collaborate on social-impact campaigns. Each experience helps them develop resilience, teamwork, and self-awareness.
By actively participating in community initiatives, students learn that education is not confined to classrooms, it’s about understanding the world, taking action, and making a meaningful difference.
